Long-time healthcare system finance and healthcare information technology executive to help guide company growth and value-driven service expansion
Bainbridge Island, WA., May 21, 2019—Health Systems Informatics (HSi), a healthcare consulting and solutions firm, announced today the appointment of Dave Peterson to its Advisory Board. Peterson is Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer at Erlanger Health System.

HSi’s Advisory Board is comprised of members with extensive industry knowledge in healthcare finance and operations, regulatory and legal compliance, safety and quality, and large-scale health system initiatives. Now in its fifth year, the HSi Advisory Board provides objective counsel on strategic business direction, how to address opportunities and challenges, and company alignment with the rapidly changing industry trends.

Dave Peterson – Senior Vice President & CIO of Erlanger Health System. Peterson is responsible for the business and technology strategy for the seven-hospital health system which is the 10th largest public system in the United States. Prior to his current position, he was the Sr. Vice President and CIO at Dimensions Health System, Vice President and CIO for Boston Medical Center, and has held many IT executive roles at other nationally recognized health systems. Peterson has over 20 years of experience in healthcare IT and telecommunications departments turn-around and major platform implementation, including Epic, Cerner, MEDITECH, McKesson, Lawson and more. He has aligned many organizations to be awarded HIMSS Analytics Stages for both Inpatient and Outpatient settings, implemented strategic IT governance programs to support both clinical and business strategic directions, and saved multimillion dollars in numerous situations due to his business assessment, reorganizations and negotiation skills. In addition, Peterson has served our country as a medical service corps officer in the United States Navy, retiring after 20 years of honorable service.
Leah Mitchell, MSN, BS, RN – CIO and Vice President of Kaizen, Quality, and Safety at Salem Health. Over the last seven years, Mitchell has provided the vision and leadership to Kaizen integration, Quality, Safety and Patient Care Services for the health system, including a 490-bed acute care hospital, psychiatric center, a community critical access hospital, sixteen outpatient clinics and a rehabilitation center. She oversees strategic initiatives including process improvement, patient satisfaction, clinical outcomes, departmental productivity, infection prevention, and organizational profit. In 2015, she took on the role of CIO responsible for the oversight of strategic vision and streamlining of IT operational efficiencies for enterprise analytics, business intelligence, EHR Inpatient and Outpatient systems, electronic workflows, clinical engineering, community connect and network operations. In addition, Mitchell participates in several boards and councils and has provided numerous lectures on Lean implementation and practice.
Norman F. Gruber – Former President and CEO at Salem Health. For 14 years, Mr. Gruber oversaw the management of operational, clinical, strategic and financial functions of the health system, including two hospitals and a 110-provider medical group. He also established Lean as a management practice which has been an integral tool in changing the corporate culture. Prior to Salem Health, Mr. Gruber was the President and CEO at Palomar Pomerado Health in San Diego, CA. During his leadership, he led the largest district health system in California, covering 800 square miles, served by 3,500 employees and netting $275 million in annual revenues. Between 1974 and 1999, he held executive positions at St. Elizabeth Health Center, Queen of Angels—Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center, and Pleasant Valley Health.
